Origami For the Holidays
Thursday, December 06, 2012, 11:30am - 02:30pm

CIToragami02SAP110509The Japanese art of origami, or paper-folding, has been in existence since the 17th century. Eva Szillery, founder of the Maine Origami Society and director of the Maine Mathematics Science and Engineering Talent Search, will add a new dimension to this art when she comes to the Opera House on Thursday, December 6, to teach "modular" origami....or unit origami, a paper-folding technique that uses multiple sheets of paper to create larger and more complex structures. Eva plans to teach her students how to create items that could easily be given as gifts or used to decorate for the holidays. The first class, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is for adults and the second, beginning at 3:00 p.m., is for preteens and teens - ages 10 and up. No previous origami experience is necessary. Please sign up by calling the library at 633-3112 or by emailing Barb at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . There is no charge, but a suggested donation of at least $5 would be welcome. This program is cosponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor.
